Different Materials Produced By Geosynthetics Manufacturers

By Sherry Gross

Geo-synthetic materials are manufactured from polymers which makes them be eco-friendly. These materials are entirely designed for reinforcement and adding strength to various structures like pavements hence making them hard to crack. There are different materials made by geosynthetics manufacturers which are very beneficial for various applications in transportation, construction and landscaping industries.

There are various classes of geo-synthetics materials one of them being the Geo-textiles. They are made from man-made fires instead of natural fibers. The fibers undergo various processes until they become materials. They are first transformed into flexible, porous fabric then taken to machines where the final process of weaving the fabric into matting is carried out. The geo-textiles are used in many areas such as reinforcing pavements and liquid barriers.

Another material is the Geo-net, which is also referred to as the geo-spacers. They are manufactured through an extrusion process which is continuous. The process produces polymeric ribs sets at angles close to each other. These polymeric sets are then opened to show the end product which is in net form and is usually large. The geo-nets are mostly used for drainage work.

Another type of materials that can be made is a special grid that is normally made from plastics. The plastics undergo through the process of starching so as to ensure that their physical characters such as strength are improved. The grids are normally used to reinforce other products with the aim of making them more powerful.

Another geo-synthetic material is the geo-membranes which are thin sheets which do not allow fluid to pass through. They are made from a polymeric material and are very useful for lining solid-waste landfills, ponds and even pits. There major work is to contain by forming a barrier for any liquid or vapor. Geo-membranes can be used over the top of the geotextile.

Another class of the geo-synthetic materials is geo-cells whose synonym is geo-webs. These materials are manufactured from polyethylene sheets. The materials are usually permeable to water and are placed in sloppy areas. They are mostly applied in containment of soil and gravel since they are porous to water. These materials can be used to fortify both the geo-textiles and geo-grid.

There are also the geocomposite materials which are made by combining geo-grids, geotextiles, geo-membranes and geo-nets. Another way of manufacturing a geocomposite material is to combine any of the four mentioned geo-synthetic material with a synthetic material or soil. The geo-composites are widely used, and their applications are still growing by the day. Some of the major functions of this geo-synthetic material is in reinforcements work, separation, filtration, containment and also in drainage.

In conclusion, geo-synthetic materials are very important materials since they are applied in many fields that concern the lives of many people. Their increased advantages have resulted to their success. They are applied often. One of the most crucial areas that they have been very helpful is to solve soil erosion, which is a major problem to many people. They also provide coating on soil, which helps it sustain moisture hence remaining to be healthy.
