Benefits Of Long Island Active Release Techniques Therapy

By Lakisha Curtsinger

There are many different solutions used for wellness purposes in the modern day. Many of these are employed in alternative medicine, especially chiropractic care. Active release techniques therapy, also known as ART, refers to a soft-tissue system or movement technique created by P Michael Leahy. There are practitioners of ART available in many areas. Long Island active release techniques therapy services are offered through many professionals and facilities in this area.

The process is employed for management of muscles, fascia, tendons, nerves and ligaments. Not many studies or evidence has been made available to support all of the claims related to this practice. Still, this is advocated by chiropractic doctors and commonly employed in this field of medicine.

ART is used for conditions involving scar tissue buildup or adhesion within muscles. Those who practice this say that adhesions can cause short and weak muscles, changes in joints and muscles, and nerve compression. This therapy is said to fix issues such as decreased blood supply, decreased mobility and tissue pain by releasing nerves that have become trapped and restoring the movement of muscle fibers.

This care may not be ideal for all. ART is not recommended for people who have active inflammation or have suffered blunt trauma. It is suggested that sessions be carried out every other day, although practitioners will provide patients with information related to safety and effectiveness of the therapy.

In this process, providers employ their hands to check mobility, texture and tightness of soft tissues. They will then apply pressure to break up or remove fibrous ad lesions. Stretching motions used are typically done in the direction of lymphatic or venous flow, but this is not always the case.

This practice involves varying levels. The initial stages in the process involve the practitioner working alone to address the tissues. During the fourth stage, the patient becomes involved. Their job is to move the tissue while the practitioners applies a special type of tension. People are encouraged to work with the most experienced, trained and quality practitioners.
