The Right Whiskey Glass Make The All The Difference

By Chris Carr

There are several types of whiskey glass ware that is used for one of the most popular alcoholic beverages in the world today. Whether it is an expensive drop or one of the cheaper brands a suitable glass for your beverage is a must. It is classed as an elegant and stylish drink; it's what Barney Stinson drinks.

What determines the type of glass used is purely a personal preference. There is a range of glasses suitable for the consumption of whiskey. There are some drinkers who like to consume as much whiskey as possible in a short space of time and others who would rather take their time to sip slowly and enjoy whiskey at their leisure. Quality whiskey requires quality glasses and some of the glasses available on the market are listed below.

If drinking a high quality whiskey then it requires a high quality glass to compliment it. Using a chaser for a lower quality whiskey would be easier and quicker. Following is a list of Whiskey glasses:

Tulip glasses are as the name suggests, is shaped like a tulip with a round bottom and tapers off towards the top with a small flute edge. They are also known as Glencairn glasses. The taper at the top allows for the concentration of the scents of the whiskey. When the nose is placed into the top of the glass and you sip the whiskey, the aromas are directed like a laser beam to your nose allowing you maximum enjoyment. At times it may be a little overwhelming so a dash of water added takes the edge off it a little.

The tulip shaped glass, also known as the Glencairn glass has a rounded bottom and it tapers in towards the top and fluted a little. The tapering allows for the nose to receive and enjoy a hit of the concentration of the aroma of the whiskey. This may be overwhelming at time and a dash of water added to it may open up the flavour and take a little of the edge off it. Adding ice cubes to this type of glass is challenging because of the smaller opening.

Tumbler:

This whiskey glassware is often called a highball. It has straight sides and looks like an ordinary glass. Although its capacity is not specified, it usually holds around seven to ten ounces of liquor. The whiskey tumbler is most appropriate for serving scotch, and Irish whiskey straight without any mix added to it. The tumbler is used to serve bourbon or any drink that contains whiskey; this may include a Manhatten and Cola.

The Snifter presents significant characteristics to the tulip; however it isn't fluted and is wider and shorter. As with the tulip shaped glass it also enhances the flavour of the whiskey by collecting the aroma of the drink high in the bowl. When sipping a quality whiskey this type of glass is an excellent choice.

How you hold your glass is important also as the whiskey glasses described combine the temperature and aroma which indulge your sense at the top of the glass.
