Booming Naples Florida Economy Helps Businesses And Careers Grow Fast

By Jony Mozen

One of the Gulf Coast's most beautiful cities is Naples in Collier County, FL. The Naples Florida Economy is heavily dependent on tourism, which in turn fuels the growth of retail, real estate and other business sectors. Then there's also the fact that the city and surrounding metro area are a paradise for retirees, whose heavy spending and retirement nest eggs push the economic growth even higher and help create more jobs.

The ten miles of soft white sand beaches are a big draw for tourists. The Everglades being so close helps too, and so do the pier and a host of other landmarks and attractions. All this adds up to make this city one of the most popular destinations for visitors in Florida. That's kind of a big deal considering that Miami and Orlando get all the families on vacation and the international visitors.

The Travel Channel has voted the beach here as the best one in America, but visitors actually have more choice because there are six beaches in the area. If that's not enough, there are more than 80 championship golf courses to keep residents and the huge flock of retirees happy and interested.

But Naples, like all major tourist destinations on the Gulf Coast, has faced significant challenges in the recent past. The Sunshine State was severely impacted by the housing crash and the recession, with property rates plummeting and new developments put on hold. To add to their cup of woes, the BP oil spill effectively derailed all tourism to the Gulf Coast for a couple of years.

The unemployment rate peaked at 12.2% during the worst days of the crisis in early 2010. It took some time for the area to recover from the recession and the oil spill, but the economy has been on a tear since 2012. There are more tourists than ever before, housing prices have stabilized, and obscenely wealthy retirees are once again spending their fat nest eggs buying up property and spending the rest in local shops and businesses.

The Naples metro area now has the largest job growth rate among America's 200 largest metros. The unemployment rate has dropped steeply to a mere 5.4%, and the median household income has risen to $56,759. Predicted job growth all the way through to 2016 has been pegged at a stunning 4.1% annual rate.

Needless to say, such growth doesn't happen by itself. The year-round sunshine, Naples Bay and the white sand beaches are no doubt invaluable assets, as are the Everglades. But it takes a whole lot more than natural beauty and tourists to convince businesses to make investments and create a large number of jobs.

The area is able to secure new investments because of the business-friendly climate and tax policies. The Greater Naples Chamber and city and county officials all work together with the State of Florida to provide any kind of assistance that a new or existing business may need to grow and create jobs. Hiring and retaining skilled talent is easy because of the work-life balance and high quality of life. People want to find jobs here as a long-term career option so that they can relocate and enjoy the good life.
