By Nadine Kocher

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Learning how to best suit the beholder is often in a person's best interest. Fitness can help lead to this pathway by enabling you to change your physical pose, confidence, and last but not least body composition to best please whoever the beholder may be.

Keep your goals short and simple as you start on a new fitness program. You can easily overwhelm yourself if, after a lifetime of being a couch potato, you decide you should be able to run 10 miles at full speed on the treadmill. At the beginnin, keep your goals simple. Start out with just a walk for a few minutes every other day. Work up to longer and more frequent walks as you progress.

If you want to increase your fat-burning potential, it is best to exercise early in the morning. Exercising when you wake up, kicks your metabolism into overdrive and allows you to stay energized all day. The food you eat will be broken down more efficiently and you are far less likely to store body fat, after morning workouts.

Exercise burns a lot of calories, but not as much as some dieters wish it would. It can be damaging to go to extremes when it comes to exercise, though. Doing this comes with a host of risks, including cardiovascular problems, muscle damage and dehydration. Also, if you exercise for too long, fat won't be burned, anyway.

If you're training for a marathon, keep this strategy in mind: start slow for the first third of the marathon, in the middle third run at a comfortable pace, and run slightly faster in the last third of the race. This will help your body maintain its strength and power the entire length of the marathon.

Do not schedule regular periods of rest and recovery during your workout sessions. Instead, take periodic breaks only when you feel that you need them, regardless of the time spent performing exercises. However, you should rest less frequently in the earlier stages of your workout program, then more frequently as you begin to grow fatigued. Otherwise, you risk cutting your total workout time down unnecessarily.

Put your Netflix subscription to good use when you want to find a new workout video. They are a little buried in the menus, but there are lots of workout videos you can try through their streaming service, and most certainly through their Quickster mail service. Once you've decided whether or not you like a video you can make and educated selection of what to buy for your library.

Exercise can be the eight-letter word that some people just hate. To some, it means hurting muscles, sweating and extreme will power. If exercising means this to you, then avoid it like the plague. Instead, just physically move more than you do already. If that means dancing while you are stirring a pot of beans, then do that. Movement burns calories, so anything more than what you currently do is better for you.

Even when you are not participating in a structured fitness program, find ways to keep moving. Make it a point to go on a walk or take a jog around your neighborhood. Use your breaks at work as an excuse to find something active to do, even if you just go outside and walk around the building a few times. The more physical activity you include in your life, the happier you will be with your level of fitness.

In order to avoid injuries, you should give your shoes an expiration date. You can use a pair of shoes for about 500 miles before it is time to replace them. To figure out when you should set your shoes expiration date, divide 500 by your weekly mileage. Write the expiration date on your shoes when you purchase them to be sure that you do not forget it.

Instead of taking a coffee break, take an exercise break. When it becomes break time, rather than hanging out and grabbing a snack, go for a walk, or do some stretching. There are many helpful stretches you can do while at work. One great stretch is to look forward, bring your chin to your chest and hold for a few seconds.

Those with asthma can safely exercise everyday if they stay hydrated. It's reported that dehydration may increase the likelihood of an asthma attack while exercising. A recent study found that those with exercise-induced asthma had a significant decrease in their lung function when dehydrated. The theory is that dehydration can cause a tightening of the lungs' airways.

Do you feel like you can do it? Of course you can! If you use these tips and suggestions as a starting point, you can be in the best shape of your life. You will not only look better, but you will feel better and have more energy than ever before.
