The fear of many individuals around the world ebola pathogen go airborne

By Alfred Obi

Although pros have said that ebola is spread through close contact with bodily liquids, some of the people claim the danger of ebola virus airborne is real. These folk believe that unless the world doesn't accept this, they won't do what is needed to end the ebola epidemic.

Interviews with transmissible disease specialists have discovered while this is possible it is highly unlikely. There is no historic precedent of a pathogen changing its method of transmission this radically.

Everything which has happened so far with ebola can be accounted for by individual to individual contact. For the ebola virus airborneit would be to copy the cells in the throat and lungs.

Secondly, the new strategy would be required to be so effective that it overcomes genetic costs to the pathogen. The natural hurdles Ebola will need to fight to become airborne makes airborne transmission doubtful.

Currently, the pathogen attacks the arteries in contrast to the breathing system. Even viruses which do attack the respiration system find it hard to get through the airways.

A good example of this is bird flu. While it is simply spread through the air with birds, it has yet mutated enough to infect humans simply.

If Ebola virus airborne, isn't yet an issue , what does it mean. To the average joe in the western world not very much. Infection is rare unless someone spends time with someone who is infected. This situation is rare as the few folks who've displayed symptoms have been quarantined.

As far as the gurus go, their time might be better spend studying the virus in its current form. When the pathogen itself shows signs of mutating enough to become airborne, then it is going to be a problem.

Some of the people claim that by that point it will be too late. Scientists will not have time to find treatments if the virus is spreading that speedily.

This is true. But the unlikeliness of this occuring may mean that scientists are wasting time researching on how to treat ebola when it is going airborne. Currently the majority of professionals believe that this may not ever occur. More lives may be saved by choosing a way to treat and contain the virus.
