Assisi Animal Health & The 4 Cat Myths To Be Aware Of

By Robin Setser

When it comes to cats, some details are clearer than others. Those that aren't are best known as myths, which we tend to believe in no matter how much information exists to the contrary. Assisi Animal Health and other companies will agree that not everything you've been told is true. As a matter of fact, here are 4 common myths about cats that you, as a pet owner, might be shocked to be learn.

"Cats do not like the water." We often associate water as one of the worst enemies of cats, which isn't entirely true. As a matter of fact, there are some breeds that actually enjoy swimming. Take the Turkish Van breed, for example, which is often referred to as the "swimming cat" due to how well it takes to water. Even though this is one myth debunked, there are others that companies such as Assisi Animal Health can clear up as well.

"It's natural for a cat to land on their feet." While cats are known to be agile creatures, this doesn't necessarily mean that they can leap from any tall height and flawlessly land on their paws. As a matter of fact, falls from great heights can injure or even kill felines. Yes, cats can maneuver in the air with ease, which makes them impressive in the athletic respect. However, it goes without saying that they are far from invincible.

"All cats love milk." You might think that milk is part of any cat's balanced diet, which is true for the most part. However, many pet owners don't realize that some cats are lactose intolerant, meaning that milk can be one of the worst things they can have. For this reason, it's important to consult your veterinarian ahead of time, since their expertise will allow you to adjust your feline's regimen accordingly. In cases like this, milk doesn't always do the body good.

"Cats don't require exercise." Cats are indoor creatures by nature, it would seem, so you might assume that they don't need to be exercised. This is far from the truth, since physical activity is required for them to maintain body weight and live better lives in general. Pet owners should know that there are various ways to keep their animal friends in shape. Whether it's a feather wand, a ball of yarn, or something else entirely, exercise can be done in a number of ways.
