What You Need To Know About Northwest Indiana Liposuction

By Kathleen Snyder

Basically, liposuction is a procedure that reshapes and slims certain parts of the body by getting rid of excess fat deposits, hence improving proportion and contours of your body. The techniques can be used to reduce the localized fat deposits in various body parts such as thighs, abdomen, and waist, upper arms, back, as well as hips and buttocks. Other areas are such as chest area, neck, cheeks, and chin. Through Northwest Indiana liposuction, the technique can be used alone or with other plastic surgery procedures.

The technique involves using suction to remove fats. Small, bunt-tipped thin tubes are used and are often inserted through tiny cuts into the skin. Your doctor through the tubes suctions fat under the skin. With the advancement in technology, improved techniques have ensured that the procedure is safer, less painful and easier.

Various techniques may be applied in undertaking liposuction. One such-like technique is tumescent liposuction. Under this technique, regions having the tube inserted are numbed with local anesthetics. Before the procedure, the anesthesia is injected to the fat-filled tissues. The anesthetic solution has epinephrine and lidocaine. Through this technique, general anesthetics may never be needed.

Other techniques used are the ultrasound and laser assisted liposuction. In the ultrasound technique, the fat is liquefied making it easier to remove. This technique is usually ideal when removing fats from sides, back, and upper abdomen. In the laser-assisted technique, low-energy waves are used to liquefy the fat, and then small cannula is used to remove the fat. Usually, the procedure is an outpatient, and may not require the patient to stay in the hospital overnight unless large amounts of fat is removed. Where large volume of fat is removed, the doctor may use a general anesthetic or a deep sedation together with a local anesthetic.

After the procedure is finished, the area where the fat has been removed is wrapped to avoid bruising, pain and swelling. Your doctor can use elastic tape and bandages, special girdle or a support hose together with firm-filling garments. The patient may also remain with the wrap for 3-4 weeks. Bruising and swelling might also be experienced for about 7-10 days after undergoing the procedure.

Patients in most cases can get up and walk soon as the influence of sedatives fades away with the procedure being finished. Patients can as well restart their routine activities whenever they feel comfortable, but generally, this can take a number of days. The recovery process may be longer, particularly when wider areas are involved.

Usually, the purpose of this procedure is to reshape specific areas and not to reduce the weight of your body. It is mostly used in specific areas that have not responded to exercise and diet.

This procedure has been effective in reducing body fat in small areas. After the procedure, improvements in body contours can be noted. Nevertheless, if you regain the weight, the fatty bulges can return.
