You will be focusing in restoring the imbalances in their hormones and sees every patient referred by other specialists. You also provide medications and create effective treatment plans. Actually, an endocrinologist may treat not only one condition but a lot of medical conditions. In fact, there are several conditions, such as growth problems, cancers of the endocrine glands, menopause, metabolic disorders and osteoporosis. Endocrinologists also work with a patient with thyroid, diabetes, cholesterol, hypertension, obesity and infertility.

Once the doctors suspect metabolism, growth and fertility problems, then they immediately refer you to a certain endocrinologist. As a specialist and an expert in the endocrine glands, you also understands the hormones produced and how it regulates the body functions. But, there are some conditions where endocrinologists also need help from other experts.

If you have the interest to work with a lot of patients, you must attend formal education to any accredited medical schools of your choice. You need to study for 10 long years in medicine, undergo proper training to practice your profession. However, you must obtain first your undergraduate degree as a prerequisite requirements before taking the four years degree in medical school. An internship and residency may also take 3 to 4 years to complete.

During the whole duration in school, you will also learn several aspects of medicine, such as pediatrics, internal medicine, gynecology and obstetrics. After that, you still need to take another three to four years to learn diagnosing and treating certain condition related to hormones. Furthermore, you must also obtain a license as part of your requirement to practice medicine.

Of course, you have to graduate from a reputable and accredited school before taking the exam. And because endocrinology is a specialty, you are also required to obtain essential certificate to practice. You may take the board certification once you have completed school and your residency training.

This profession is very noble and a rewarding one. Although you take years at school, but in return, you will work with patients and help them to recover with their conditions. This is quite rewarding, especially if you have helped them a lot in treating their condition.
